The Wines

Château Maine Gazin makes organic Bordeaux wines from Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, grown only on its own 6.2 hectares of vines in Plassac, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. In Australia you can buy the Prestige Rouge 2019, the Rouge 2018, a single-variety Petit Verdot 2018, the Rosé 2025 and a mixed Introduction Pack.
Clear. Structured. Made to be understood. If Bordeaux has ever felt complicated, you're not imagining it — but it can be simpler than that. Our wines begin with three foundations: place, grape and balance.

Place: why does the vineyard come first?
The vineyard slopes gently toward the Gironde on limestone and clay soils, with a mild maritime climate. Irrigation isn't permitted in Bordeaux, so the soil, light, drainage and weather shape what's possible long before blending begins.
Terroir isn't a romantic idea to us. It's the starting point. Every wine is estate-grown and bottled at the château — Mise en Bouteille au Château.
Grape: what does each variety bring?

Merlot brings generosity and texture, Cabernet Franc brings freshness and lift, and Petit Verdot brings structure, colour and depth. Each grows in its own parcels and is harvested and fermented separately, so the blend can follow the vintage.
- Merlot — generosity and texture
- Cabernet Franc — freshness and lift
- Petit Verdot — structure and depth
We don't add grapes for complexity's sake. We use them with intent. In some years one variety can stand confidently on its own; in others, balance comes through blending. Consistency, for us, isn't uniform flavour — it's a consistent standard of character.

Balance: how are the wines made?
Every decision is made with drinking in mind: structure without heaviness, expression without noise. Wines are fermented in concrete, French oak is used selectively to round the Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and the reds are released with several years of bottle age so they are ready to enjoy.
Does it settle? Does it open comfortably? Does it invite another glass? That's where our thinking is contemporary — not in rejecting Bordeaux tradition, but in using it deliberately.

Are the wines organic?
Yes. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2019 and is certified organic by Ecocert, which also means lower maximum sulphite levels in the wine.
We farm organically because it fits our long-term view of the land. It's slower and more demanding, but it supports soil health and vine balance — which ultimately supports quality.
